Smart Racer Bots
MAKER ROBOTICS - STEM DEEP
In Smart Racer Bots, your child becomes a robotics engineer as they design, build, and code a smart car robot that can move, light up, and make simple decisions on its own.
Using micro:bit, motors, lights, and sensors, campers learn how real robots work. They build a robot car, program it to drive and turn, and then make it smarter by adding obstacle detection.
Through hands-on challenges and guided coding, your child discovers how robots use sensors to “see” the world and respond to what’s around them.

This beginner-friendly camp is designed especially for ages 4 - 5 and ages 6 - 7 and focuses on curiosity, problem-solving, and confidence!
Solution Topic
In this camp, students explore investigative questions by building smart race cars and discovering how autonomous vehicles sense and respond to the world.
Kids will inquire:
How does a robot know when to stop or turn?
How do sensors help cars react in real time?
How can mistakes be fixed through testing?
Campers work through racing and obstacle challenges.
Design, Experiment, Build
Campers will:
Learn the engineering design process for product design
Ideate, brainstorm what makes a toy fun and SMART?
Assemble a robotic race car
Plan driving behaviour
Build circuits with motor sensors
Program motion logic
Test and improve on obstacle tracks
This stage emphasizes decision-making and iteration.
Camp Learning Journey
Day 1: Meet the Robot Car
Coding & Movement Basics Campers are introduced to robot cars and how they move. Your child programs motors to drive forward, stop, and turn using block-based coding.
Day 2: Lights, Signals & Control
Your child adds lights to their robot car and learns how code can control visual signals. Campers experiment with turning lights on and off to communicate robot actions.
Day 3: Obstacle Detection & Smart Decisions
Campers add an ultrasonic distance sensor and learn how robots detect objects in their path. Your child programs their robot to react when something is too close — such as stopping or turning away.
Day 4: Smarter RobotsTesting & Improving
Your child refines their robot’s behaviour, testing how it responds in different situations. Campers practice debugging and improving their code to make better decisions.
Day 5: Smart Robot Showcase & Celebration
The final day features a fun showcase where campers demonstrate how their robot car moves, detects obstacles, and makes smart decisions using code.

What will you learn?
Coding fundamentals micro:bit
Circuits and Robotics introduction
How motors create movement
How lights act as robot signals

Why does this camp matter?
Smart Racer Bots introduces young learners to the idea that robots don’t just move, THEY THINK.
By combining motors, sensors, and coding, your child learns how technology can observe the world and respond intelligently.
These early robotics experiences build a strong foundation for future learning in engineering, AI, and problem-solving.
Start your engines!
Campers design and build a smart robot car that can move, light up, and avoid obstacles. Through playful challenges, young engineers learn how robots “see” and respond to the world around them.
