LEGO ROBOTICS - STEM DEEP
Take robotics to the next level with a real-world ocean engineering challenge. In this advanced LEGO Robotics camp, students work in teams to design, build, and program autonomous robots that solve underwater exploration missions inspired by real ocean science.
Campers explore the three ocean zones : Sunlight, Twilight, and Abyssal, and learn how engineers design robots to work in different underwater environments. Each day, students research real challenges, build
LEGO engineering structures and robot attachments, and program their robot to complete tasks such as pushing, pulling, grabbing, sensing, and navigating. Using LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Prime, students apply the engineering design process to test, iterate, and improve their robot as they work toward a final team mission showcase.

This camp is designed for ages 8–12 and is ideal for students who enjoy building, coding, problem-solving, and teamwork.
Solution Topic
Through hands-on challenges and team-based engineering,
Your child will:
Build and program an autonomous LEGO robot using block-based coding
Design and test robot attachments for real tasks (push, pull, grab, lift)
Use sensors to improve accuracy and consistency
Learn engineering concepts such as structure, balance, alignment, and efficiency
Practice teamwork, strategy, testing, and iteration
Understand how robots are used in real ocean exploration
Design, Experiment, Build
Campers will:
Learn the engineering design process
Ideate, brainstorm, Engineer and build a modular Robot with Extensions to solve Missions underwater
Learn the basics of Coding
Learn the basics of Robotics
Camp Learning Journey
Day 1: Ocean Challenge + Robot Foundations
Students are introduced to the SUBMERGED challenge and the three ocean zones. Teams explore mission models and build a strong, driving-base robot, focusing on stability, straight driving, and precise turns.
Day 2: Sunlight Zone – Navigation & Control
Students program accurate movement to solve early missions that require careful navigation around structures and obstacles. Focus is on distance, turning accuracy, and repeatable results.
Day 3: Twilight Zone – Sensors & Object Interaction
As missions become more complex, students add attachments and sensors. Robots interact with objects by pushing, pulling, or moving mission elements. Teams test and refine multiple solutions.
Day 4: Abyssal Zone – Strategy & Advanced Engineering
Students design specialized attachments and refine their robot to handle multiple tasks efficiently. Teams research how real deep-sea robots are engineered and apply those ideas to their builds.
Day 5: Final Mission Challenge + Showcase
Teams finalize their robot and programs to complete multiple official-style missions in one run. Students present their strategy, demonstrate their robot, and reflect on improvements. Families are invited to a Final Ocean Robotics Showcase.

Why does this camp matter?
Robots play a critical role in ocean exploration, from studying coral reefs to exploring deep-sea environments humans can’t reach.
This camp gives students hands-on experience solving realistic engineering problems, helping them understand how robotics, research, and teamwork come together to explore and protect our oceans.
Deep beneath the ocean’s surface, mysteries await discovery.
Students become underwater explorers, building and programming robots to solve challenges inspired by ocean environments. Through teamwork and experimentation, campers learn how robotics helps us explore the unknown.
