Logic in Motion (Fall)

Logic, Loops, and Motion

"Three ways to solve the same problem." This term kicks off the year with creativity and movement.

Students design their own interactive 2D games using block-based coding as they strengthen their coding fundamentals, including loops, events, variables, and logic. They will build LEGO® SPIKE robots that navigate mazes as they respond to sensors and navigate challenges. and create obstacle worlds in Minecraft.

Through this playful balance of coding and robotics, children begin to think like engineers, understanding concepts such as force, motion, and cause-and-effect. This term builds confidence in computational thinking while connecting coding, engineering, and digital making. Parents join the Arcade & Robotics Expo to celebrate student creations.

By the Expo, they’ll proudly showcase both a game they’ve coded and a robot they’ve engineered.

FUN FACTOR

Code your own arcade-style game and playtest with friends

Watch your LEGO® SPIKE robot race through a maze

Build Minecraft obstacle worlds and challenge classmates

See three very different solutions to the same maze problem

End the term with a lively Arcade & Robotics Day for families

ENRICHMENT FACTOR

tool.png

Introduces sequencing, loops, and variables in block-based coding

Reinforces energy, motion, and sensor response through robotics

Minecraft makes abstract logic visual and engaging

Builds computational thinking across digital, physical, and virtual systems

Teaches persistence: when robots or code don’t work the first time, students learn to iterate

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Understand core coding concepts: loops, events, conditionals, variables

Apply engineering design to robotics builds (force, motion, energy transfer)

Use sensors for cause-and-effect in robots and games

Develop early debugging strategies across different platforms

Strengthen spatial reasoning through Minecraft world design
