VIRTUAL REALITY AI EDITION

UNITY - GOTHAM CITY - SKYLINE DEFENDERS

AGES: 10 - 17

Defend the city. Outthink the enemy. Control the skyline.

A rival force is attempting to take control of Gotham using coordinated attacks and intelligent patrol systems. Teens must design the city’s defences, deploy AI-driven responses, and protect the skyline from collapse. Enemies adapt. Threats escalate. The city responds based on the player’s decisions.

VIRTUAL REALITY AI EDITION

UNITY - GOTHAM CITY - SKYLINE DEFENDERS

In Gotham City: Skyline Defenders, teens in AI become game developers and AI system designers, building a 3D Gotham-inspired city.

Using Unity VR edition and C#, teens create a fully playable 3D city where: Enemies patrol intelligently across districts. Defence systems adapt to rising threats, and NPCs react based on player decisions

The city evolves as the game progresses. Students design foundational AI systems used in professional Unity games, including state-based behaviour, pathfinding, and adaptive gameplay. Teens design and build for VR, testing how immersive perspectives impact strategy and player experience.

This camp blends cinematic storytelling, AI systems design, and professional game development tools, giving teens both context and challenge as they build a living, intelligent city.

Solution Topic

On your way to creating your own Metaverse,  Campers will explore:

  • What rules govern the Metaverse?

  • Should they be the same as the physical world?

  • Developing for Virtual Reality.

  • Game design and development - what makes games interesting, what makes VR games different. Developing for Virtual Reality -

  • Understanding physics and the movements of a 3D world. What do you need to consider?

Design, Experiment, Build

Your teen will:

  • Ideate, research and design considerations in the virtual realm

  • Design and journal your virtual space,

  • Identify the game construct

  • Understand how AI governs economies and simulations

  • Learn how player decisions influence complex systems

This camp emphasizes thinking like a system designer, a key skill in AI and engineering fields.

AI in This Camp (Teen-level, foundational & applied)

Teens explore foundational AI systems used in professional Unity games, including:

  • State machines for NPC behaviour,

  • Rule-based decision-making,

  • Pathfinding and navigation (NavMesh),

  • Player-aware AI responses and Adaptive gameplay systems.

Students learn how intelligence in games emerges from logic, perception, and decision frameworks, not just animation.

Camp Learning Journey

Day 1: Welcome to Gotham

Unity & World Building: Teens explore the Unity interface and begin building Gotham’s skyline using 3D assets. Students learn scene setup, camera control, lighting, and basic C# scripting.

Day 2: Characters & Control

From Scripts to Systems, Students code player movement and introduce NPC characters. Teens begin transforming static characters into AI-controlled agents using conditional logic and behaviour states.

Day 3: AI Patrols & Navigation

Defending the City, Teens implement Unity NavMesh pathfinding, allowing enemies and defenders to patrol the city, chase intruders, and navigate complex environments intelligently.

Day 4: Adaptive Defence Systems

Smarter Threat Response: Students enhance AI systems so enemies and defences react dynamically to player actions. Teens explore adaptive difficulty, threat escalation, and player-aware behaviour.

Day 5: Polish, Balance & Gotham Showcase:

Teens refine AI behaviour, balance gameplay, and optimize performance. Camp concludes with a Gotham Skyline Showcase, where students demo their AI-driven city defence systems.

SKILLS GAINED

Why does this camp matter?

Virtual reality and real-time 3D systems are shaping the future of gaming, simulation, training, architecture, and immersive media. Behind these experiences are intelligent systems that control movement, decision-making, and interaction in complex environments. Learning how these systems are designed gives teens a powerful foundation in both AI thinking and professional game development.

This camp helps teens:

  • Understand how AI-driven behaviour systems are built in modern 3D and VR games

  • Learn how logic, navigation, and decision-making control intelligent characters

  • Gain experience with Unity and C#, tools used across the game, simulation, and XR industries

  • Explore career pathways in game development, immersive media, simulation, and AI-powered systems

For teens who enjoy strategy, world-building, and technology with real-world applications, this camp develops the skills and confidence to design interactive systems that think, respond, and evolve.
