EMERGING TECH - 3D VIRTUAL REALITY VR

RAINBOW OBBY - Roblox 3D Game Design and VR Experience

In Roblox (VR) – OBBY: Rainbow Catcher, your child becomes a game designer as they build a vibrant, rainbow-themed obstacle course (OBBY) inside Roblox Studio.

Campers design exciting 3D platforms, jumps, and challenges while learning how obstacle games are structured and played. Using guided, pre-written scripts, students explore how checkpoints, collectibles, and player movement work by making simple modifications and seeing immediate results.

As part of the experience, campers are introduced to VR Light and explore how to experience Roblox games in virtual reality. Students step inside their obstacle course to see how space, distance, and platform placement feel in an immersive environment—without complex VR programming.

This camp is beginner-friendly and designed to build confidence, creativity, and foundational game development skills.

Solution Topic

Design, Experiment, Build

Through investigative questions, students gain real-world skills in 3D world building, game design and development, and designing experiences for virtual reality

Students explore questions such as:

  • How does an obstacle know when a player has touched it?

  • What systems control checkpoints, rewards, and player progression?

  • How do scripted events change the challenge and flow of a game?

  • How does designing for VR affect spacing, movement, and player comfort?

By answering these questions through hands-on development, students learn how real Roblox games are structured, scripted, tested, and refined.

Students will:

  • Learn the  game design process

  • Research, ideate and brainstorm Rainbow OBBY obstacle Game ideas for the adventurous VR Experience

  • Build 3D environments using Roblox Studio parts, terrain tools, and assets

  • Script checkpoints, hazards, and collectibles using guided and modifiable Lua scripts

  • Create event-driven logic that responds to player actions

  • Design reward mechanics and simulated monetization features

  • Experience their games in VR Light mode to evaluate scale, comfort, and immersion

  • Present their final OBBY and explain how their game systems work

This stage emphasizes systems thinking, player experience, and real scripting workflows, mirroring how professional Roblox developers build interactive 3D games.

VR Light in This Camp

Students learn how obstacle games use logic and player data to guide gameplay. AI Light concepts are explored through checkpoint systems, collectible logic, and responsive game elements. VR Light allows campers to experience how immersive environments affect player interaction.

Camp Learning Journey

Day 1: Build the Rainbow World

3D Design Fundamentals Students learn Roblox Studio tools and begin building a colourful rainbow-themed obstacle course. They design platforms, terrains, paths, and layouts that players must navigate.

Day 2: Obstacle Logic, Checkpoints & Movement

Campers explore how obstacle courses work using pre-written scripts. Students modify checkpoints and respawn logic, learning how games track player progress.

Day 3: Collectibles & Game Assets

Rewards That Motivate Players: Students design collectible assets, such as rainbow tokens or power-ups, and place them throughout their obby. Campers explore how collecting items can unlock progress or rewards.

Day 4: VR Light Exploration & Asset refinements

Experience Your OBBY in Virtual Reality! Campers experience their obstacle course in VR mode and discuss how platform spacing, height, and movement feel different in immersive play.

Day 5: Polish, Playtest & Rainbow Showcase

Students refine their obstacle course, test gameplay, and showcase their Rainbow Catcher OBBY to peers.
